Great legend in Tamil cinema is no more – RIP Manorama
Gopishantha popularly known as Manorama died yesterday. She was born in 1937 in Mannargudi. She started her acting career at the age of 12. She was named as Manorama by a drama director Thiruvengadam and a harmonist Thiayagarajan. She has acted in more than 1000 stage performances. She acted in few roles in Vairam Nataka Sabah dramas and played more than 100 plays in S.S.R Nataka Mandram Company. She fell in love with her drama troop manager S.M.Ramanathan and married him in1964. They were blessed with a son Bhoopathi and later got divorce from S.M.Ramanathan in 1966.
In 1958, she entered Tamil cinema through the film ‘Maalayitta Mangai’ and performed in a lead role. ‘Konjum Kumari’, her first film as a heroine in 1963. She has acted in more than 1500 films and registered her name in “Guinness World Record”. The fantabulous actress in Cine industry acted with 5 generation actors. She was the recipient of the Kalaimamani award by the government of Tamil Nadu. She has been awarded ‘Film Fare – Life Time Achievement Award’ in 1995 and ‘Padma Shri’ in 2002. She won the National Film Award for Best Supporting Actress for the movie Pudhiya Pathai in 1989. She has done many best comedy roles too. She has been called as ‘AACHI’ with affection and love. She has marked her talents not only as a actress but also as a playback singer. She is a tribute to cine industry and no one can ever replace her and her performances. May her soul Rest in Peace !!
