Diwali legiyam- Traditional recipe


Coriander seeds  (dhania)- 2tablespoon

Jaggery (vellam)- ¾ cup

Omam – 2 tablespoon

Cumin seeds( siragam) – 2 tablespoon

Pepper (milaku)- 2 tablespoon

Dry ginger-  ¼ tablespoon

Ghee- 3-4 tablespoon

Sesame oil( ellu ennai)- as required

Method to prepare:

  • Soak coriander seeds, cumin seeds, pepper, omam for 3 hours…. Chop dry ginger to fine pieces. Then grind all the soaked seeds and fine chopped ginger to thick paste…melt jiggery in ¼ cup of water and retain all impurities… then add paste to jiggery liquid and stir to it… boil for 2 minutes. Saute it in a low flame for 15 minutes till it reaches halwa consistency. Add ghee in small intervals.
